Upgrades and More at Sherrill Power and Light

The Sherrill Power and Light Dept. continues to make strides by moving forward with the installation of residential and commercial radio read meters.  The Department, in coordination with Sherrill Kenwood Water District and Superintendent Matt Russell, will soon begin implementation of custom programming and mapping that will create efficiencies throughout various city departments.

Sherrill Power and Light has engaged Mohawk Valley EDGE as a project consultant as we embark on the engineering component of a large utility upgrade  project here in the city.  This project will focus mainly on the upgrade of the 50-year-old main transformer at our South Main Substation.

The Department is in the planning phase as we continue to push forward  on some long overdue underground and overhead circuit upgrades throughout the system.

Lineman Apprentice Mathew Flaherty reaches his one year of service with the department in February.  Lineman Mike Ross is scheduled to retire this Fall and Matt has been selected as his direct replacement.

Sherrill Power and Light Intern/part time employee Samantha Bentley wrapped up an 18-month effort to update our property maintenance records.  She was charged with renumbering, inventory, and inputting all relative information regarding our distribution system.  We are excited to modernize our system.

In late 2019, the City of Sherrill approved a $7 million dollar waste water treatment plant upgrade. The engineering is complete, and the City will go out to bid this Spring with construction beginning this year.  A fall 2022 completion is anticipated.  This will be the first upgrade to the plant in 40 years.
